Priti is opposing the use of accomodation at the former air force base at Wethersfield by the Home Office for asylum seekers. The rural site, located in the Braintree district, is being used to accommodate hundreds of asylum seekers who have entered the UK illegally while their claims are processed.
She has repeatedly called on the Government to scrap the plans, citing the fact that this is a rural site unsuitable to accommodate the scale of the additional population, and that it does not have the infrastructure or public services in place.
They’re also looking to house more asylum seekers in our communities, taking rental housing out of the market for local families. This is wrong. What we need is a plan to deport those who have arrived here illegally and leave the ECHR so the courts can’t block us.
