Witham MP Priti Patel has expressed her outrage after the Labour Government has confirmed today that they will be cancelling funding for the proposed 420 place Lodge Farm primary school. The school was due to be delivered as part of the new housing development in Witham and the last Conservative Government committed funding through the free schools programme for it, but its future is now in doubt. The school would have also provided new spaces for children with special educational needs and disabilities, as well as catering for Witham’s growing population. Priti said:
“Labour has cut funding for education in Essex and it’s outrageous that children, young people and families in Essex will now suffer. For years this school has been planned, but once Labour came to office they were hellbent on axing these funds and leaving Witham worse off. I will keep campaigning to get this school built and if the Government won’t fund it then I’ll be pressing Essex County Council to use the funds they have set aside to cover these costs if needed.”
