Witham MP Priti Patel has slammed Labour for failing to invest in local rail services. As Keir Starmer's two years as Prime Minister comes to an end, the Government has announced the introduction of ticket gates at Witham railway station, but has given no information on the impact this could have on staffing levels and no details on the future plans for rail services following nationalisation. The Government has also continued to refuse to invest in the regeneration of Witham railway station. Following the Government's announcement, Priti has written to the Secretary of State for Transport to demand answers. Priti said:
"Under Labour, investment in transport infrastructure in Essex has been slashed. They've refused to fund the redevelopment of Witham railway station and this is on top of axing the A12 Widening Scheme and A120 Dualling Scheme. While they've announced some crumbs with ticket gates, they're refusing to say what the impact will be on staffing levels and one year after announcing nationalisation have no plans for the future of our rail services."
