Witham MP Priti Patel has slammed the Chancellor of the Exchequer's latest tax-grabbing Budget. The Budget will increase taxes by £26bn, Including freezing income tax thresholds until 2031, dragging millions into paying tax and higher rates of tax on their incomes. This Budget follows last year's £40bn tax-grab.
Taxes on businesses will rise too, and motorists will be hit hard with increases in fuel duty to come in next year as the freezes and reductions brought in by the last Conservative Government are reversed. Pay per mile is being introduced for EV drivers while Air Passenger Duty is rising too. The Labour Government also refused to protect farmers and family businesses by scrapping the plans announced last year for new taxes on family farms and businesses. Forecasts published with the Budget and other data also shows that borrowing is continuing to rise record level, unemployment is increasing, and growth is falling. Priti Patel said:
"Labour's latest tax-grab is bad for Essex and Britain. The Chancellor and Prime Minister are forcing hard-working families and businesses to pay more because they have damaged the economy, failed to get the public finances under control and refused to control and contain welfare spending."
"Every day this tax-grabbing, business-bashing, job-destroying budget is damaging our country and leaving us all worse off."
