Witham MP, Priti Patel, has continued her “Get Witham Growing” campaign with a visit to Tiptree Heath Primary School, encouraging pupils to take part in gardening activities and learn more about the benefits of gardening.
During the visit, Priti met with pupils and staff to hear about the school’s gardening club and the different ways in which students have involved themselves in gardening. Pupils spoke about the different plants they have been growing and shared their enthusiasm for spending time outdoors and learning about the natural world.
As part of the campaign, Priti presented the school with a growing basket containing a range of vegetable and flower seeds to support the school’s gardening club and activities. Originally launched in 2023, “Get Witham Growing” encourages schools across the constituency to promote gardening and horticultural skills among young people.
The initiative builds on the success of previous years’ schemes and forms part of Priti’s wider engagement with local schools. Alongside “Get Witham Growing”, Priti also runs “Get Witham Reading”, encouraging students to enjoy reading, which will be relaunched again this year.
After the visit, Priti said:
“A wonderful visit to Tiptree Heath Primary School, where I met pupils and shared with them plant and vegetable growing kits as part of my Get Witham Growing initiative with local schools.
“The school has an excellent gardening club, and it was fun to spend time listening to pupils about the enjoyment they get from gardening at school. They will enjoy growing many of the vegetables and plant seeds I donated to the school and I look forward to visiting them again once the plants and vegetables have grown!”
