Priti Patel, Member of Parliament for Witham and Patron of the Museum of Power in Langford, joined staff, trustees and volunteers to mark a series of major developments at the museum and discuss the important plans for the new education centre set to open in 2026.
Priti’s visit and discussion focussed on the successful completion of the National Lottery Heritage Fund-supported ‘Powering Forward’ project, which has transformed the museum’s exhibitions and facilities while strengthening its educational and volunteer offer. Priti has been a longstanding supporter of the museum and their long term plans to bring a permanent education centre to the site.
She also viewed the beginning of essential ground and construction works on the museum’s new education building, a vital addition that will support local schools and STEM education, as well as plans for resurfacing the courtyard to improve the site’s usability.
Speaking after the visit, Priti said:
“The Museum of Power is unique and a remarkable place which was awarded “Engineering Heritage Listed Status” by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in 2013, which recognises the contribution that the staff and volunteers have made in preserving part of Britain’s heritage for future generations to enjoy.
The numerous power-related exhibits are incredible, and we are all committed to ensuring the next generation learn about the various sources of power, machinery, equipment and tools used to generate energy which we all today take for granted.”
