Priti Patel, Member of Parliament for Witham, joined members of the Hindu community from across Essex to inaugurate the new Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple, in Hatfield Peverel, in the Witham constituency on Wednesday (16 July 2025).
The inauguration and consecration of the new Temple follows the completion of important restoration works on the former church building on The Street, which will now be a significant place of worship for people of the Hindu faith across Essex. The Temple will also be a community facility, with community leaders and volunteers from the Temple already engaging with local schools.
Priti has previously visited the Temple during the construction works when she observed the extensive work and investment that was undertaken to establish the new Temple. During her visit, Priti Patel was warmly welcomed by Temple trustees, community leaders, and volunteers. Speaking afterwards, Priti said:
“It gives me great pleasure to extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the community on the auspicious occasion of the inauguration of the Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple in Hatfield Peverel, in the Witham constituency. They have done a fantastic job bringing this building back into community use and they have established a wonderful Temple which will serve as a beacon of faith, culture, and community spirit.
“As a scared place of worship, it stands within the community as a testament to Hindu values and the positive role this community plays in the life of our country. The Temple will be become a focal place for worship, education, community and cultural activity.”
