Priti Patel, Member of Parliament for Witham, officially opened the new wing at St Dominics Residential Home in Kelvedon during a visit to meet residents, staff and the family who own and operate the home.
St Dominics is a family-run residential care home providing care and support for elderly residents in Kelvedon. The newly opened wing will expand the home’s facilities and strengthen the care provision available to residents and families in the local community.
During the visit, Priti was given a tour of the new wing, met residents and staff, and discussed the care and support provided at the home. Priti also met the retirement home’s owners and heard more about the family’s commitment to St Dominics, its residents and the wider Kelvedon community.
The home provides a wide programme of activities, entertainment and local outings, alongside specialist facilities, including an interactive mobile sensory screen and a sensory room designed to stimulate and enhance the lives of residents living with dementia.
St Dominics also works closely with local schools, churches, youth organisations, volunteers and members of the wider community to provide activities and companionship for residents.
The home has been awarded Platinum status under the Gold Standards Framework Quality Hallmark Award, recognising its sustained commitment to providing high-quality care and support, including palliative and end-of-life care. St Dominics was the first residential care home in Essex to achieve this standard and has also received a Good rating from the Care Quality Commission.

“I was also pleased to hear about the home’s strong connections with the wider community. Its links with local schools, churches, youth organisations and volunteers help residents remain active, engaged and connected with people across Kelvedon.
“The home’s Platinum Gold Standards Framework accreditation is an outstanding achievement and reflects the professionalism, dedication and compassion of everyone involved. I would like to congratulate the family and the entire team at St Dominics on the opening of the new wing and thank them for the important care they provide.”
