Priti Patel, Member of Parliament for Witham, recently visited Hatfield Peverel St Andrew’s Junior School to meet with Headteacher Ms Becky Black and receive an update on the school’s temporary accommodation arrangements and the next steps for future construction on the site.
During the visit, Priti met with Becky Black to discuss the impact of the temporary accommodation on pupils, staff and the wider school community, as well as the importance of ensuring that the Department for Education continues to provide clear timelines and practical support for the school.
The meeting focused on ensuring the works progress as quickly as possible, while minimising disruption to pupils’ education and maintaining high standards of safety, wellbeing and access to outdoor play space.
Speaking after the visit, Priti Patel MP said:
“Hatfield Peverel St Andrew’s Junior School has faced significant disruption, and I was pleased to meet with Becky Black to hear directly about the next steps in the school’s rebuilding process.
“The replacement and relocation of the temporary accommodation for the school has already caused significant disruption, and it is vital that the next stages of the school rebuilding programme are processed quickly, with minimal impact on the children’s education.
“I will continue to work closely with Ms Becky Black, the school, Essex County Council, and the Department for Education to ensure these works are progressed properly and as quickly as possible. Pupils and staff deserve safe, high-quality facilities, and disruption to children’s learning must be kept to an absolute minimum.”
