Priti Patel, Member of Parliament for Witham, recently visited Honywood School to meet Headteacher Mr Saunders and see first-hand the work being done to support pupils’ learning and development.
The visit provided an opportunity to celebrate the school’s recent successes, including its student production of Grease, and to discuss wider upcoming projects. With the GCSE examination period approaching, discussions focused on the steps being taken to ensure all pupils are well supported during what can be a stressful time.
During the visit, Priti discussed the school’s approach to delivering high-quality education, as well as the additional support provided to students during a busy exam period. School funding and financial challenges were also discussed following the imposition of real terms cuts in per pupil funding by the Government, as was the school rebuilding programme following RAAC-related remedial works in 2023.
Speaking after the visit, Priti said:
“Schools across the Witham constituency are working hard to support pupils, which is why I was pleased to visit Honywood School and meet again with their fantastic Headteacher Mr Saunders to see this work in action. I always welcome the proactive measures taken at Honywood School and Mr Saunders to support students, building their confidence alongside a strong focus on academic achievement and personal development.
“It was particularly encouraging to hear how the school supports students to take on responsibility while developing both academically and personally.
“However, schools across the constituency are facing real terms cut in funding, placing increasing pressure on budgets and future planning, because of this Labour Government. I discussed these important challenges during my visit and will continue working with Honywood School to address them.”
Priti reaffirmed her commitment to working closely with schools across the constituency to ensure they have the support needed to deliver high standards of education.
