Priti Patel, the Member of Parliament for Witham, visited Stisted Church of England Primary Academy today (Friday 11 July) for the first time since the school became part of the Witham constituency following recent boundary changes.
Ms Patel was warmly welcomed by Interim Headteacher Danielle Welsman and enjoyed a tour of the school, which serves around 105 pupils in the heart of Stisted village. During the visit, Ms Patel spent time engaging with students in the classroom and learning more about the school’s unique approach to education, which includes mixed-age classes, a Montessori-influenced Reception curriculum, and an emphasis on emotional well-being and inclusion.
Speaking after the visit, Ms Patel said:
“It was a pleasure to visit Stisted Primary and meet the dedicated staff and inspiring young pupils. The school’s inclusive ethos, strong academic results, and commitment to personal development are evident in everything they do. I was particularly impressed by the school’s innovative learning methods, excellent special educational needs support, and the nurturing environment they provide.”
The visit also included a meeting with Ms Welsman to discuss the school’s priorities and upcoming plans, including the rescheduling of the "Get Witham Reading" initiative. Ms Patel also learned more about the school’s membership of the Canonium Learning Trust, recently named “Trust of the Year 2025,” and its role in supporting high standards across local schools.
Ms Patel concluded:
“Stisted Primary embodies the very best of our local schools—community-led, values-driven, and committed to giving every child the best start in life. I look forward to supporting the school and working closely with the Canonium Trust.”
