Witham MP, Dame Priti Patel, recently visited The Tea Rooms in Witham following the announcement of its closure after 16 years of service to the community. The visit aimed to show support for the owner and staff and to shine a light on the challenges faced by small businesses under ruinous Labour government policies.
The Tea Rooms, known locally for its excellent homemade food and friendly atmosphere, has been a staple in Witham since its establishment in 2009. Owner Lisa-Jane Spence expressed deep sadness over the decision to close, citing unsustainable operating costs and economic pressures directly stemming from government decisions.
During the visit, Priti spoke with staff and patrons about the significant role The Tea Rooms has played in the local community. The MP highlighted her continual commitment to supporting small businesses in the face of anti-business policies, emphasising the need for urgent support.
"The closure of The Tea Rooms is an awfully sad and stark reminder of the difficulties small businesses are encountering under this economically illiterate government," said Priti. "It's clear that Labour is bad for business. Jobs lost, longstanding businesses closing and no help in sight. This will deeply impact the local community and particularly the elderly, many of whom rely on small businesses like The Tea Rooms to socialise."
The closure of The Tea Rooms reflects a broader trend of small businesses struggling to survive amid economic uncertainty.
