Witham MP Priti Patel has been working with National Highways to secure the long-awaited repair of Woodend Bridge in Witham. The bridge has been subject to restrictions since being damaged in 2015 and was due to be rebuilt as part of the A12 Widening Scheme. But since the Labour Government cancelled the scheme in July, the need for repairs to be undertaken is urgent. National Highways have been looking at repair options and have informed Priti that they expect to bring forward a plan early next year with repair works to follow. Priti said:
“We have all be frustrated by the restrictions and delays at Woodend Bridge and the widening of the A12 would have enabled a modern new bridge and junction to be installed. But the dreadful decision taken by the Labour Government to scrap this much-needed scheme has meant an alternative is needed. I have been in contact with National Highways over the urgent need for the bridge to be repaired and I am pleased that they are prioritising plans and will keep pressing for this work to be undertaken as quickly as possible.”
