Priti Patel, Member of Parliament for Witham, has continued her “Get Witham Growing” campaign with a visit to Earls Colne Primary School & Nursery, as part of the initiative taking place across the Witham constituency, encouraging gardening and horticultural skills in schools.
During the visit, Priti met with pupils and teachers to hear more about the school’s gardening activities and the projects children have been taking part in through the school’s gardening club. Pupils shared their enthusiasm for growing plants and vegetables, as well as the enjoyment they gain from outdoor learning activities.
To support the school’s gardening projects, Priti presented pupils with their own growing kits, including baskets, plant seeds, and a variety of vegetable seeds, to help encourage further participation in gardening activities at school.
Originally launched in 2023, “Get Witham Growing” was created to help children develop an appreciation for nature and the outdoors while learning practical gardening and horticultural skills. The initiative continues to grow each year, with schools across the constituency taking part in activities designed to support outdoor learning and environmental awareness.
After visiting the school, Priti said:
“It was a pleasure to visit the wonderful students and teachers at Earls Colne Primary School & Nursery, taking part in my Get Witham Growing initiative..
“I had the privilege of meeting the students and presenting them with their own growing kits, including baskets, plant seeds, and a variety of vegetable seeds to support their school’s gardening club.
“It was a joy to hear about their enthusiasm and learn more about their own gardening projects.
“Get Witham Growing is all about encouraging children to spend more time outdoors, learn practical skills, and develop an appreciation for gardening and nature. It is fantastic to see so many schools and pupils embracing the campaign and getting involved in their own gardening activities.”
