Priti Patel, Member of Parliament for Witham, recently visited the White Hart Pub in Witham to discuss the Labour government’s policies which are affecting Britain’s pubs.
During the visit, Priti heard first-hand about the pressures being placed on pubs from Labour’s job tax, hikes to energy bills and the extraordinary increases in business rates which Labour have put on pubs.
The White Hart, like so many pubs across the constituency and the country, is part of the local community and supports local employment.
Speaking during the visit, Priti said:
“The Great British pub is part of the fabric of our nation. It is an integral part of the community and provides a place of comfort and connection for people across the country. However, this terrible Labour Government is destroying pubs through its jobs tax, hikes to energy bills, and by hitting pubs with an average 76% rise in business rates. It is no surprise that so many pubs across the country have taken the step of banning Labour MPs.
The Conservative Party has always backed our pubs. We gave them vital relief during Covid, and we would scrap business rates for thousands of pubs altogether. Abolishing business rates would help secure the future of pubs, protect jobs and support our high streets. It is only the Conservatives who have a clear plan to back our pubs, back businesses, and drive jobs and growth.”
Priti continues to champion local businesses across the Witham constituency, working to ensure that pubs and hospitality venues receive the support they need to thrive and continue serving their communities.
