Witham MP Priti Patel has welcomed the decision of the North Essex Parking Partnership to retain arrangements to allow one hour of free on-street parking in Witham. A review of arrangements had been undertaken and following extensive public consultation and work and campaigning from local Conservative Councillors and Witham Town Council. Priti said:
“Our high streets and small shops are facing tough times and need as much help and support as they can get. The decision to maintain one hour of free parking will make a difference and help encourage use of our small businesses. Small shops make such a vital contribution to jobs and to the character of Witham Town and I pay tribute to everyone who campaigned hard to secure this decision and to the public and businesses for responding to the consultation. With the Labour Government imposing tax rises, increases in business rates and new regulations on our small shops, this will be welcome news.”
