Welcome to my constituency newsletter for June.
The Labour Government is in crisis. It's falling apart around us and the Prime Minister has resigned. Keir Starmer and Labour had no plan to govern Britain and that is why, over the last two years in office, they have failed.
Instead of promoting economic growth and enterprise, they pushed up taxes and increased red tape, strangling the very businesses our country relies on to create and support jobs. They misled the country about our finances. They broke promises and have been embroiled in scandal after scandal - from freebies from wealthy donors to Mandelson. And instead of acting in the national interest to address the big challenges Britain faces, Keir Starmer cowered to the demands of the hard Left, special interests and his party.
That's why they've found more money for welfare and benefits, but refused to fund our Armed Forces at the levels needed to keep us safe. They found £35bn to pay to surrender the Chagos Islands to Mauritius, but refused to fund the widening of the A12, dualling of the A120 and the proposed Lodge Farm Primary School. And it's why they've taxed family farms, small businesses and school fees, but refused to admit their policies are causing harm to hard working families.
A change of the man at the top won't change the direction of the Government for the better. Keir Starmer has been a terrible Prime Minister, but the business-bashing, job-destroying, tax-grabbing Labour Party is unable to tackle the challenges Britain faces. In a period of global political and economic instability, Britain should be showing strong leadership, but instead we've become a laughing stock.
This has real consequences for our country and impacts here in Essex. Families and businesses face higher costs and taxes, our infrastructure and public services are being starved of the investments they need, and public confidence in politics has taken a hammering.
While Labour is embroiled in their damaging psycho-drama, I am continuing to champion the issues that matter locally across the Witham constituency. Whoever the new ministers are in government responsible for planning, transport and energy, they will be hearing from me about our concerns with the A12 and A120 schemes being scrapped, the funding for Lodge Farm being cancelled and the damage to our countryside that their plans for pylons and housebuilding targets will cause.
As well as holding this awful Government to account, I have been supporting businesses, community groups and schools across the Witham constituency.
