Witham MP Priti Patel has slammed the Labour Party after the number of unemployed residents on the claimant count rose by 6% in the last year. Figures released today show that the numbers on the claimant count for June 2025 were 1,555, which is 85 higher than in June 2024 (1,470). Nationally the unemployment rate to May 2025 has risen to 4.7%. Priti said:
“After one year in office, this job-destroying, business-bashing, and tax-grabbing Labour Government is letting down hard-working families and businesses across the Witham constituency. Jobs throughout Britain are being lost as a direct result of Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves mismanaging the economy, their anti-business policies, and their desperate tax rising plans to fill the black holes they have created in the public finances.”
